A little bit about me.

I’m a passionate engineer and business leader driven to deliver a positive impact through my work. My main areas of work are as a Solution Leader at Arcadis Germany, and writer of Not Smart by Kinch.

I have a vision for my all of my work, whether it be as an engineer or something else, to deliver good and positive change to the world. While I haven’t come up with a comprehensive definition for what “good” actually means, the sentiment seems to be a useful guide.

If you’re interested in finding more information regarding my current and previous professional roles, my LinkedIn page should provide everything you’re looking for.

The fact that you’ve made it this far suggests your probably looking for something you couldn’t find in the above pages - I’ll try and use this space to fill in some of the gaps.

I’m a strong believer in always trying to look beyond one’s own horizons when tackling a problem. Engineering is all too often distilled into a purely technical discipline, often failing to acknowledge the greater impact and consequences engineering can have. Smart Cities, for example, require us to consider everything from the environmental to the political contexts in order to implement an idea or solve a challenge. Not doing so would likely result in a non-inclusive, non-effective solution that no one wants.

Fundamentally, I don’t believe engineers are created because a person has a degree in it. I believe engineers are created when people apply themselves to solve a problem, acknowledge the limitations of their own understanding, collaborate with others and seek to develop a solution that respects and utilises the wider context of the problem. Collaboration is an integral component of this and so working with different minded people is an important enabler to tackling complex and multi-faceted challenges.

If you’re interested in finding more and exploring how my mind works further, check out my Open Thoughts page. It’s a bit of a blog type format where you’ll find various articles and other media about engineering and creativity. I post things I find “in-the-moment” interesting on Twitter too - so you can follow me there.

Finally, if you want to get in contact - whether it be for a conversation, idea or work - head over to the Contact Me page, it’d be great to hear from you.
